Leprosy is a real public health problem.
The precise number of cases cannot be counted. In Vietnam alone,
hundreds of thousands of lepers and their children still live in
the most remote and isolated areas, devoid of all contact with
civilization.The
tragedy of these poor lepers has become more and more widespread,
particularly in deep jungles and distant mountains where they find
themselves on the fringes of human society, victimized by a poor
distribution system. Besides their physical deterioration caused by the
deadly disease itself, the lack of medicine, and inadequate nutrition,
they also suffer tremendously from social injustice and prejudice.
Especially unfortunate are the innocent children who suffer under these
elements from the first moment of their lives. |
