Leprosy causes great destruction of skin, bone and other organs of the body.  Walking around with open, bleeding wounds and dirty bandages, many lepers suffer from infected wounds. Lack of medical attention or proper amputation causes death in many cases. Those who survive are left with blindness, facial deformities and multiple organ complications.  The destruction of nerves leads to a loss of sensation in the distal extremities; eventually, all that is left is a pitiful human stump.
